@@danielleparker2963I'm facing potential eviction right now, spouse is unemployed and my job is the only thing that's holding things togther.
Today was the first time I ever faced a bullying situation during my 3 years at this workplace.
A new promoted lead was aggressive and rude toward me for no reason. I stood my ground and replied to her with the same energy and Attitude then another lead " her buddy" got involved, told me you can't talk to her like that, I said why not?! she said cause shes a lead. I firmly replied to her that I don't accept bullying and belittling regardless from whoever and my dignity is not negociable.
I escalated it to HR who seemed to understand and asked me If I can forgive her and to please not quit.
No amount of money is worth putting on the line your self respect and dignity.
You tolerate it once then it just becomes a daily thing.
I walked away before from similar toxic environments during my darkest hours in life yet I never regretted.
If you believe in yourself and you back it up with serious work ethic it's gonna be their loss not yours. Don't let them get away with abuse.

I wish I could have listened to this year's back. I have been bullied several times at a work place and lost confidence. I couldn't even say a word since I was afraid of losing the job that I eventually lost through retrenchment.
I remember one day I was sobbing saying, I want to say something but I can't since I am the breadwinner and I don't want to fail my family(Wife and son).
Thanks for the lesson and I will stand my grounds from now on.

I recently escaped a horrific, toxic job. (I worked at a bank in compliance for reference). I had 2 managers. The assistant and department head. The assistant was my boss. She lead by fear, loved watching me squirm. She would often put me on the spot and ask questions she knew I didn’t know the answer to and I could see her smirk. The other boss would just sit there and let her berate me. She would berate and humiliate me in our weekly meetings and this became the norm. Extreme micromanaging, down to how I worded emails and I was terrified of losing my job so I kept quiet. I just wanted her to be pleased with my work but that was absolutely impossible. It was never good enough ever. I learned to decode her like a military tactic. If she shut her door fast she was about to call someone in. If she stopped everyone who walked past her office to chat(she was extremely fake but would always tell me I was the one who was fake and I needed to be more authentic) it would maybe be a bearable day. Quick foot steps meant she was on a warpath. I put up with this for over a year. The level of cruelty was astonishing too. We were all expected to eat lunch together almost daily. I faked a smile and joked but deep down I loathed these people. It became exhausting trying to be happy go lucky at lunches when I was deeply miserable by just their presence.
I would be given obscene amounts of work (often told this was just a typical load and I needed to step up) with little to no direction. They would hand me charts, for example, and say the answer is there figure it out. I would just cry in my office and spent endless hours googling until I thought I found it. If it was wrong I would get yelled at by my coworker who was supposed to be training me and then tattled on which meant more meetings with the bosses. I had absolutely zero training for anything I did. There was one person who helped me but boss woman tried to turn us against each other too by having me audit everything (my nice coworker) did. Needless to say this didn’t go over well with her and my boss knew exactly what she was doing. It felt like a workplace version of The Hunger Games.
Meanwhile, everyone thought I had this big hotshot position but I’ve never felt so small in my life. She even orchestrated the whole department to tattle on anything I did and said down to asking basic questions. I would get called in for meetings over every little thing I said and they would ask me about it “why did you say that to so and so” and it would often be completely twisted around. Anytime I tried to defend myself she would fire back at me saying I need to take responsibility and I’m shifting blame. (On something I didn’t even do!!) It became agonizing , never knowing when I would get called in. I would be given assignments with little instruction. Many times I would be half way through and they would change it up and then claim I didn’t meet deadlines. If I dared questioned why anything was being changed all hell would break loose. Of course a meeting, but the berating would be really amped up. I would usually be told I was in an entry level position and I had no business questioning management or something to that nature. Usually followed by other harsh criticisms, so I figured just staying quiet was my best option. What’s worse is she was slick and never did anything in writing so I had nothing to go on to file any kind of complaint.
It got so bad, I started having regular panic attacks, stomach problems and a constant eye twitch. I developed crippling anxiety and quit sleeping. At night I would drink liquor and pass out. My husband knew how bad it was and said I needed help and we would be fine if I wanted to get out of that job. My pride got in the way and I assured him this was just part of it and I could tough it out. The final straw was when I didn’t take my (scheduled) vacation day and I missed my sons field day to finish a project. Only to have others in the department take all the credit. I was done.
Quitting this job saved my life. My dr says I have severe depression and ptsd. I had constant nightmares when I initially quit. I still have a lot of rage and anger towards those people but I’m learning to let that go through therapy. These days I’m happy to report that I work for our successful family business. We put our kids 100% first and travel when we want. I still take it day by day but it helps sharing my story. I just want to tell anyone out there don’t ever put up with bullying and you deserve so much more. Thanks for a great video and you have a new subscriber!

Don't take them personally or to heart.
Narcisssitic Bullies are better off ignored. Bite your tongue sometimes when you must and don't take the bullies seriously.
The bullies are trying so hard to hurt you, but you can choose how to act or even feel back at them. That is your power.
When this strategy really works well, the narcissistic bullies squirm in very entertaining ways. Just take it all in when the show is underway.
Never let the narcissist see you respond emotionally with tears, anger, etc. No response is best. Ignore. Ghost. Gray Rock. Distancing.
Your bully or bullies will in time likely move on to another target if you don't feed/supply them.
Don't feed them the supply they seek. Nothing bugs a narcissist more than when you don't respond to their " emotional blows". Distance yourself however you can physically when possible, and in emotional ways also. Even moving away a few steps is a move in the right direction with bullies.

I was bullied out of my recent job for an online company. The manager kept picking on me constantly about my performance even though it was the company's website that was having constant issues. I explained to the manager that I couldn't properly do my support job if the website was constantly breaking and changing. Nothing was done about the feedback I provided to the manager about the issues. She issued me a final warning out of nowhere which I found very disheartening because I thought I was doing my job well. I was forced to leave the job in the end as to not get fired.

Bulling is a complex mix of perception, experience and effect. Sometimes the alleged bully are not aware of the consequences of their behaviour even when the problems are evident to those around them. A lone bully can be dealt with as suggested here, however if the organisation supports the bullies behaviour (usually evident by the presence of a wide spread toxic environment) then walking away may be the only option.

Because he doesn't understand my autism and he doesn't understand that when I feel stressed to leave me alone, instead he chases me and accuses me of being rude. I am not being rude , I just get stressed in talking to certain people because I'm autistic. I've had four bullying bosses in my career - my current boss, I feel, is one. This morning, she gave me a task to do, I wasn't comfortable with. I listened to her what she wanted from me, and despite my reservations, I said okay. Suddenly, she snapped at me, complaining that if I am okay with it, why haven't I done it yet? And when I responded because the customers started coming in, so I didn't have time to do it. And she stated how she didn't like how I was gestering my hands out, which is crazy - it was kinda like she was baiting me into an argument. I mean, how else was I supposed to respond?
After bullying boss #2, I vowed to myself to never work for someone like that again - I guess I'm still slow to learn that lesson....

0:57- I don't always find bully's to be that direct, most of the controlling people I have dealt with in my life prefer a more subtle in-direct method. they prefer to let lies, gossip, slander, gaslighting and their own good reputation with the other family members do their dirty work for them rather than to directly put you down or intimidate you. In public they are charming, relational, kind and generous. Only one on one in the home or behind closed doors do they truly show their face. Are saying a bully for a boss is often more direct and public than this.

The boss above my boss has been tainted by what was told them. So you can't go to them. I went to the top boss and was told, "! Know what's going on." But it had a chilling effect on the way it was said to me. They are all in this together. One thing I noticed, was the turnover rate.. RED FLAG!!!
New hires would be treated badly and they left. It becomes a sick cult.
The other problem is the lack of training and being set up to fail. They gossip about how terrible you are. Yet, they failed to do their job. They are managers. It's painful. Very painful.
It's as if they are jealous over someone who actually wants to work. I thought that is what I was hired to do, a job....
One thing you never mentioned is the idea of cameras on at all times watching you. That alone has a deep psychological effect on you.

I'm going to quit my job and work at a coffee shop, but the application asks for my previous employer and contact number. I need her to write well of me so I can get the job. But after I get the job and quit my current one, I want to write my boss a letter, _finally_ standing up to her for her toxic behavior. Is it risky? Can she just contact the coffee shop and tell them what I wrote to her? She needs to hear how she made me feel weak and stupid and undermined.

Unfortunately I don't think that telling employees to quit is a solution. I've heard this again and again but the problem is not those being bullied, its the bad manager who is allowed to be a bully. And from my experience bully managers act that way out of their own insecurities, jealousies, fears - and allowing them to continue only means companies are compromising quality employees to support a bad employee. It has been scientifically proven now that these type bully bosses, managers and coworkers actually cost companies incredible amounts of profits because so much energy goes into protecting bad managers and having to rehire good employees who will also get the undeserved bullying by the same bad employee. I never understand why an entire company will sacrifice good people to protect bad apples??? Why do good managers live in fear of bad ones? Never has made sense to me.

I think it's because they think that people are replaceable. They don't care if an employee quits because somebody else will want to apply for their job once they vacate a position. The bad boss is a favorite and has tenure. I don't think a small company would want to lose so much money; a company that makes enough profit to sustain itself plus gives its higher executes nice salary increases I think are more likely to treat their employees as disposable and keep the bad boss/es around. Only thing I know to do is look for another job during your free time, put your two weeks notice in, and try your absolute best not to punch the bully boss in the face or cuss him/her out. Very difficult to do, but it can be done.

Some bully boss are passive. Instead of humiliating me in front of other people, they will hurt me by poking any parts of my chair without others noticing it. But I will feel that they did that because they hate to be humiliated also or be seen by others doing evil things. So they discreetly hurt me, not physically, but indirectly. Instead of words, they will try to pose threat by poking my chair when they come around or by observing at my back without me noticing it. What will I do?

my exboss was like this. once another employee quit I was given their work, and what theyv been doing for two years. once the boss called me to his desk and yelled at me for mistakes in the previous employees work. so i quietly told the boss that it was not my doing and that is how i received it. he continued to tell me I did it knowing very well he just handed me the project few days ago. there are some people out there who think you are bully material somehow because they feel like they have one upped you due to some reason, especially when you are quiet or direct or down to earth or all. they take you for a fool. once you analyse their behaviour for sometime you will know whether they are actually bullying you or it was just a one time thing where you got unmeccessarily offended. also look at how they treat other people, does he treat them all the same way as he treats you? if they are a bully you will know it for sure. then find another job and quit to his face suddenly with the shortest notice available legally.

Great tips except: When you’re providing for your family, getting fired for standing up for yourself makes your whole family pay for it. It’s a LOT more complicated than it’s made out to be. Plus, you’ll have a negative review from that employer for future references.

This sounds like me and my son who work at the same employment but different hours. I'm 52 and older than him. He's about 25. He seems high and lifted up with pride. He singles my 20 year old out for almost a year and has had female workers be employees of the month when hired before a month. Then comes the males employee of the month. All I hear is Daniel is this and that. Ex employee females have said that the manager has tried to offer to them rides and practically showed up unannounced to pick up a lady his age for work. She end up quitting.
He blames my son for loosing parts of a vacuum etc. My son has experienced anxiety.
Me on the other hand everything was good I never talk back always on time to work but since I called the manager and was crying and asked him what he has against my son he told me to calm down. I was having a bad week though. The manager was bugging my son for a work excuse statement from the hospital for 2 days and here I happen to be at the hospital the next day an happen to pick it up so the boss says it's acceptable.
This past Sunday I noticed the boss gave me less hours while other employees had more plus he took my son off the schedule for an entire week!
What do I do confront him or take it to corporate? Go to the labor department an file for discrimination? Oh yes the manager gave me a gift a rock shaped as a heart about a year ago. I'm tired of all the gossip and whispers to me by other employees!

I'm in the same situation. I'm currently working for someone that I worked with for about a year about 25 years ago so we've been "friends" longer than we've worked together. About six months ago I decided to give it a try working for her under her own company. It sucks!
She is a bully to others at her firm. She treats me so so, but tries to smooth it over with the fact she pays me pretty decently but money isn't everything. I've pretty much had it with her BS and her demeaning people and trying to talk about them behind their backs to me. Tides will turn very very soon.

I am a vendor going into stores to stock and maintain my companies product. The back room Receiver in 4 hrs/2 days, insistes HE is my boss. I told him I have two boss’s, the store and my Mgr of the product line u represent. Again, and repeated he said, “When You are in my store, I am your boss”.
    Suggestions on handling this?

    • @DrMikeThomson
      @DrMikeThomson  3 года назад +3

You are correct - He is NOT your boss (technically) - He does represent the store and can say what he wants in that store (brutal truth) - He can influence you in where he might want the product, how he thinks it might be best displayed, etc BUT you can sahre that with your boss on your end - ALWAYS keep your boss in the loop on what is transpiring so he has a heads up just in case he gets contacted - Kindness, Respect & Civility with this store guy is the best policy - Tough to do, YES - You go in the opposite direction and you know better than I do that he will love that and jump all over you and especially with your boss - You are right, you go in the store and stock the shelves of your product - Seems simple enough to me - Keep doing your job with a smile on your face and when you get back in the tuck to leave, pause for a moment and say out loud, "Thanks God I don't have to stay there for 8 hours with that guy!" - Some people (like this guy) are sent from God to we can see exactly "How NOT to be!!!!!"

I have a bully for a boss. She came in as a store manager and somehow got the three managers fired. She's narcissistic, she won't listen, she talks over me and says I take everything she says personal. Yesterday she screamed at me at the clothing store in front of the customers. I'm going to HR. Problem is the district manager let's her get away with everything. What can I do ?

Sorry, I might be missing something here but how is getting fired _not_ letting your boss win? That is like the ultimate winning move for them and as an employee there's virtually nothing you can do about it. Also, what do you do when your boss is sneaky and only pulls this crap when there's no one else around? None of it is ever done via text or email, it is always verbal so unless I start secretly recording the conversation, I have no evidence of it ever occurring. Whenever I attempt to stand up for myself, he will gaslight me and say "you're blowing it out of proportion" or straight up "I never said that". If I try to push it further the conversation will just circle with no resolution or acknowledgment of my perspective.
